Pet Grooming Cost
When buying or adopting a pet, there are many things to think about. Your financial obligation doesn't end with the cost of the pet. There are veterinary costs, food, toys, beds, and other accessories. What about pet grooming costs? You have invested time, love and money in this pet so you want it to look good too. Regular grooming keeps the skin healthy and the pet free of parasites.
Of course, you can do it at home, but with today's busy lifestyle, there may not be time. Many purebred and even mixed breed dogs need regular haircuts. You don't want your dog to look like Cousin It, do you? Enter the groomer, the savior of your pet's good looks.
Costs vary from place to place and it's no surprise to me that they are about twenty-five percent higher in the northeast which is where I live. Yes, no matter the price, the professional groomer will make your life a lot easier. Just schedule your dog's appointments as you would your own. Don't forget your cat. While they are pretty low maintenance, long haired breeds will need some professional help to look their best.
Basic , uncomplicated cuts for small to medium dogs run from thirty to fifty dollars. Of course the larger the dog, the higher the price, with short haired breeds costing from fifty to seventy dollars. large, thick coated dogs can cost from seventy to ninety dollars. What do you get for your money? A typical grooming includes a bath, nail trim, ear cleaning and comb out and some clipping. For those who want just the bath the cost is a bit less.
There are of course, add ons available. Dematting, flea treaments, skunk baths, and teeth cleaning will set you back another five to thirty dollars each. If you want the convenience of a mobile groomer, the costs are about ten to fifteen dollars higher. There are also do it yourself dog washes that charge around twelve to fifteen dollars if you bring your own supplies. If this seems too much, you can learn to do it yourself via books and videos at a cost of around twenty five dollars. Another fifty to one hundred fifty dollars for clippers and you're all set.
Whether you go the professional route or do it yourself, regular grooming will keep your pet looking great and keep the skin and coat in good condition.
